One tour, one operator, one clear format: NaTour Way runs a 2.5h caving session inside the mines of the Arouca Geopark, priced at 30 € per person. The physical level is open to everyone, so no prior underground experience is needed. Guides speak English, Portuguese and Spanish. Book directly through NaTour Way and confirm the meeting point at Canelas in advance, as GPS can be unreliable on rural roads near Arouca.
Caving in the Arouca Geopark mines near Porto
You're exploring actual mining galleries carved by human hands, not just natural cave formations. The Arouca Geopark is a UNESCO-recognised site, which means the geological context is exceptional. Expect tight passages, mineral surfaces and total darkness when guides cut the lights.
Most participants point to the first few minutes of complete darkness deep inside the mine. With zero natural light and the ambient temperature dropping noticeably underground, your senses shift fast. That's the moment the experience stops feeling like a walk and starts feeling like caving.
The tour is listed as open to everybody, but confined passages and low ceilings are part of the experience. If claustrophobia is a real concern, contact NaTour Way before booking to ask about passage width and any sections that can be bypassed.
The session runs 2.5h. Guides operate in English, Portuguese and Spanish, so you can request your preferred language at booking.

Wear closed-toe shoes with a firm grip and clothes you don't mind getting dusty or damp. The session lasts 2.5h underground, so a light layer for cooler temperatures inside the mine is worth bringing, even in summer.
