Los Cauces runs a single 2h rafting session on the Sella River through the Picos de Europa, starting from Arriondas at 40 €. The "Sporty" physical level means you'll be paddling actively, not just riding the current. It suits beginners with a reasonable fitness level, and guides speak both Spanish and English. Book early in summer: the Sella corridor fills fast between May and September.
Rafting excursions in Picos de Europa, from Arriondas
The Sella River through the Picos de Europa features a series of continuous rapids where the current accelerates between narrow canyon walls. The most adrenaline-heavy sections hit mid-run, when the river drops and the raft picks up speed with no chance to pause.
No prior experience is required. The physical level is rated Sporty, meaning you need decent fitness and should be comfortable in water, but Los Cauces provides full briefing and guides throughout the 2h session.
Falling in is part of the experience on class rapids. Your guide covers self-rescue basics in the pre-run briefing. Life jackets and helmets are standard equipment provided by the operator.
May and June deliver the highest water levels on the Sella, thanks to snowmelt from the Picos de Europa peaks. This means stronger currents and more technical rapids. July and August are busier but still solid for rafting.
