8 rafting tours on the Isère, the Doron de Bozel and the Dora Baltea rivers, priced from 62 € to 165 €, with durations ranging from 2h to a full day. Three intensity tiers cover the full spectrum. Beginner-friendly trips (62,75 €, "Everybody welcome" or "Occasionally sporty") run 2h to 2h30 on the Isère and suit first-timers or families. Intermediate options (77,95 €, "Sporty") push 3h on the Isère or the Doron de Bozel, a more technical glacial river that feeds into the main gorge. The premium tier (139,165 €, full-day) combines rafting with hydrospeed or crosses into the Aosta Valley on the Dora Baltea, one of the Alps' most powerful rivers. Pick your level first, then your duration. If adrenaline is the priority, not price, go straight to the Doron de Bozel or the full-day Dora Baltea run.
Rafting down the Isere, La Plagne
At 62 €, the Isère descent with AN Rafting Savoie is the cheapest way to hit real whitewater, open to all levels.
Extreme rafting excursion down the Doron de Bozel, Savoie
The 'Extreme rafting' on the Doron de Bozel (88 €, 2h) is the hardest-rated river run under 100 €.
Rafting down the Dora Baltea, Aosta Valley
The full-day Dora Baltea trip (165 €) crosses into the Aosta Valley for the longest and most powerful Alpine river run on offer.
Rafting and Hydrospeed down the Isere River, Savoie
Rafting plus hydrospeed on the Isère for 139 € delivers two distinct adrenaline formats in a single full day.
The Isère through the Tarentaise valley runs at a solid intermediate level, with rapids that get more powerful as snowmelt peaks in June and July. Beginner routes are graded for anyone, while the full Isère run is rated 'Sporty' and delivers consistent whitewater over 3 hours. If you want a harder hit, the Doron de Bozel is explicitly labelled 'Extreme' by the operator.
The Doron de Bozel is a steeper, narrower glacial tributary that drops faster than the main Isère channel, producing tighter rapids and less recovery time between hits. Operators rate it 'Sporty' with an 'Extreme' label on that specific tour. At 88 €, it's also the highest-intensity option under 100 €.
The full-day rafting trip down the Dora Baltea in the Aosta Valley (165 €) is the most demanding option, combining distance, duration and one of the Alps' most powerful glacial rivers. The combined Isère and Doron de Bozel run (95 €, 3h) is the most intense single-day option without crossing into Italy.
The season runs from May to September. Water levels are highest in June and early July when Alpine snowmelt is at its peak, producing the fastest and most powerful rapids on both the Isère and the Doron de Bozel. Late August and September offer lower, warmer water and a calmer experience.
No prior experience is required for the entry-level tours: the 62 € and 66 € trips are rated 'Everybody welcome' or 'Occasionally sporty' and are guided throughout. The Sporty-rated tours (77 €,165 €) assume basic physical fitness but no technical rafting skills. Your guide handles navigation and safety.
All 8 tours include English and French-speaking guides. Three operators, EssaOnia - Esprit Rafting and Valrafting France, also offer German and Spanish guidance. If language matters to your group, check the specific tour listing before booking.

Equipment
Wear a swimsuit or close-fitting thermal layer under the wetsuit provided by your operator. Secure your footwear with a strap, bring a change of dry clothes and leave valuables at the base, as every run involves full water immersion. For Sporty-rated tours lasting 3h or more, a light waterproof layer for the drive back is worth packing.
