One operator, one river, one decision: 40 € gets you onto the Lao River in Pollino National Park with Rafting Lao. The session runs between 3h and 7h depending on conditions, and the physical level is open to everyone, including first-timers. Book in advance during peak season (May to September) since this is the only rafting option in Scalea's area. Families, solo paddlers and groups all fit this format.
Rafting on the Lao River in Papasidero (Pollino National Park)
The Lao River runs through a deep limestone gorge inside Pollino National Park, producing fast currents and technical rapids. The operator lists the physical level as open to everyone, so the intensity is manageable for beginners while still delivering real whitewater.
Navigating the narrowest sections of the Lao gorge puts you closest to the canyon walls with the strongest current. Expect turbulence, spray and little margin for error at those choke points.
Basic swimming ability is strongly recommended for any whitewater activity. The operator will provide a life jacket and helmet, but confirm specific safety requirements directly with Rafting Lao before booking.
The session duration ranges from 3h to 7h. Total time on the river depends on the chosen route and water levels on the day. Ask the operator at the meeting point which version applies to your booking.

Wear a swimsuit or quick-dry shorts and bring a change of clothes for after, since you will get wet. Water shoes or old trainers with grip are essential as sandals are not safe on a raft. The operator supplies helmets and life jackets.
