Both tours run with Couleur Canyon along the limestone cliffs of the Verdon Gorge, departing from the same meeting point in La Palud-sur-Verdon. The 55 € "Trou du Renard" via cordata runs 3h at an "Occasionally sporty" level, making it the right call if you're stepping onto iron rungs for the first time. The 85 € "Main Morte" route demands 5h of continuous effort at a "Sporty" level, with more exposed climbing and a steeper physical commitment. The 30 € price gap reflects two extra hours on the wall and a significantly harder grade. Pick Trou du Renard for a solid first taste of the Verdon canyon walls. Go Main Morte if you want a full-day challenge that tests your grip and your endurance.
Via Cordata of Trou du Renard in the Verdon Gorge
3h on the wall at an "Occasionally sporty" level for 55 €, guided in English and French by Couleur Canyon, this is the cleanest entry point into via ferrata on the Verdon Gorge cliffs.
Via Cordata of Main Morte in the Verdon Gorge
5h of sustained "Sporty" climbing above the Verdon canyon for 85 €, Main Morte delivers the longest and most physically demanding experience available here.
On both via cordata routes, the exposure peaks mid-route when you're clipped to the cable above the Verdon river canyon with nothing but limestone and air beneath you. The Main Morte route extends that exposed feeling across 5 hours, which makes the sustained vertical sections the real test.
A healthy respect for exposure helps, but fear of heights doesn't disqualify you. The via cordata system keeps you clipped to a fixed cable throughout. Trou du Renard at the "Occasionally sporty" level is specifically suited to people who want to confront that exposure in a controlled, guided setting.
Main Morte is the harder route. It runs 5h compared to 3h for Trou du Renard and is rated "Sporty" versus "Occasionally sporty". Both are guided by Couleur Canyon, but Main Morte involves more demanding climbing and significantly longer time on the wall.
Yes. The season runs from May through October. Outside that window, weather conditions in the gorge make the routes unsafe. Book within that window and check for afternoon thunderstorms, which are common in the Verdon area during summer months.
Yes. Both Couleur Canyon tours are conducted in French and English, so English-speaking participants are fully covered throughout the route.
