PENA ADVENTURA PARK runs one canyoning route on the Rio Poio, open to all fitness levels, for 45 €. The session runs 4 to 6 hours, which means you get a full half-day of rappels, slides and natural pools in the Ribeira da Pena canyon. Guides speak Portuguese, English and Spanish. Book directly through PENA ADVENTURA PARK and confirm your slot at least a few days ahead during peak summer months.
The operator lists this route as open to everybody, so the technical difficulty is accessible rather than extreme. That said, a 4 to 6 hour session in an active canyon means sustained exposure to cold water, drops and natural obstacles throughout the day.
Rappel descents are typically the peak adrenaline points in any canyon. The specific drop heights on the Rio Poio are not published, but a route lasting up to 6 hours generally includes multiple abseils and water jumps.
Not a requirement, but expect vertical descents with a rope. The physical level is listed as open to all, which means the route is designed so that first-timers can manage each obstacle with guide support.
The season runs from May through September. May offers higher water flow for a more dynamic experience, while July and August deliver warmer conditions. Both windows are valid depending on the intensity you want.
