One option on the table: Swiss River Adventures' 4h descent into the Viamala gorge, one of Switzerland's most dramatic limestone canyons, at 172.2 CHF per person. The "Everybody welcome" physical level means no prior experience is required. Groups are guided in German and English. Book early in the May-to-September season, as slots in a gorge this iconic fill fast.
The Viamala gorge drops through narrow limestone walls carved by the Hinterrhein river, forcing you through tight passages, rappels, and natural waterslides. The canyon walls close in dramatically at certain points, which is where the adrenaline peaks.
Basic swimming ability is strongly recommended for any canyoning activity involving water immersion. The physical level is listed as "Everybody welcome", but confirm your specific swimming comfort with Swiss River Adventures before booking.
Alpine canyon water stays cold even in summer. Exact temperatures vary by month, but expect a sharp shock on entry. Your operator provides a wetsuit to manage exposure over the 4h session.
The meeting point is Besenbeiz Alte Post, 7430 Rongellen, near Thusis. Confirm arrival time directly with Swiss River Adventures when you book.
