Odyssée Canyon runs one 3-hour descent into the Bénétant Canyon at La Bâthie, priced at 100 €. The tour is rated Sporty, so expect active swimming, jumps and rappels through a carved limestone gorge near Albertville. Guides speak both French and English. Book this if you want a structured technical descent rather than a gentle intro. Confirm your booking directly with Odyssée Canyon and ask about minimum group size for your date.
Descent of the Bénétant Canyon at La Bâthie, near Albertville
The rappel sections into the canyon pools are typically where the adrenaline peaks. The Bénétant gorge channels fast water through narrow rock corridors, so the combination of current, drops and jumps hits hardest in that stretch.
Yes. The Sporty level means you'll be swimming through natural pools and negotiating moving water. You don't need to be a strong swimmer, but total water-phobia will make the 3 hours uncomfortable.
The Sporty rating puts it above a beginner discovery tour. If you've never done canyoning before, discuss your fitness and comfort level with Odyssée Canyon before booking. They operate in French and English, so the conversation is straightforward.
The season runs from May to September. Early summer (June and early July) typically brings higher water flow and stronger currents from snowmelt in the Beaufortain massif. Late August and September offer lower, warmer water and a calmer technical experience.
