Jet skiing in Tenerife: which port, what price and when the sea is calm

10 min read · October 2026

Jet skiing in Tenerife happens in the south of the island, and nearly always from the port of Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje: 7 of the 11 rides on our pages leave from Costa Adeje. For a first time, book a one-hour guided ride: €70 to €140 for a jet ski you drive alone, €80 to €160 for two people sharing one. No licence is needed, because you ride in a group behind an instructor, as Spanish law allows. You must be 18 to drive, or 16 with written consent from a parent. The southern sea is calmest from May to September; March is the roughest month.

The simplest plan:

  1. Staying in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas or Los Cristianos: go from Puerto Colón, less than 6 km from your hotel.
  2. Staying in Golf del Sur or El Médano: go from Los Abrigos (Marina San Miguel) or Las Galletas, where one ride includes a hotel pick-up.
  3. Pick an hour over a 20-minute circuit: the circuit loops between buoys, the ride follows the coast.
  4. As a couple, share a jet ski: you pay €40 to €80 each instead of €70 to €140.
  5. Book early in your stay with free cancellation: if the swell cancels the ride, you can move it.
  6. Bring ID and some cash: some rides ask for a cash deposit.

Our best spots

Where can you go jet skiing in Tenerife?

Three southern ports hold almost all the rides: Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje, Las Galletas, and Marina San Miguel in Los Abrigos. Elsewhere, the offer comes down to Radazul, near Santa Cruz, sold through resellers; the north coast around Puerto de la Cruz has no rides on our pages, and the weather section explains why.

Port Rides on our pages Starting price Road distance Best for
Puerto Colón (Costa Adeje) 7 from €60 for 20 min; an hour from €70 solo, €40 per person for two 2.6 km from Fañabé, 4.3 km from Playa de las Américas, 5.6 km from Los Cristianos the widest choice, the ride to Los Gigantes
Las Galletas (Marina del Sur) 2 from €100 an hour 11.8 km from Los Cristianos, 18.6 km from El Médano a ride with pick-up and a swim stop
Los Abrigos (Marina San Miguel) 2 from €75 an hour 2.3 km from Golf del Sur, 14.5 km from El Médano Golf del Sur hotels, jet ski and quad combos

Road distances calculated with OpenStreetMap, from the resort centre to the port.

Puerto Colón, Costa Adeje

This is Tenerife's jet ski port: six of our rides leave from its piers, and a seventh picks you up in Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos or Las Américas. You'll find every format here, from the 20-minute circuit to the one- or two-hour ride to the Los Gigantes cliffs, 26 km north by road. If you're staying between Fañabé and Los Cristianos, it's a few minutes by taxi, or a walk from Fañabé. It's the right default. All rides are on our jet ski in Costa Adeje page.

Las Galletas

The port of Las Galletas offers two rides of one to two hours along the volcanic cliffs, with a swim stop (at Jet hub, on the two-hour ride only). Turbo Jet Ski picks you up free of charge anywhere between Los Cristianos and El Médano. Choose Las Galletas if you want to be collected at your hotel and not think about getting there. See jet ski in Las Galletas.

Los Abrigos and Marina San Miguel

Marina San Miguel is 2.3 km from Golf del Sur. Ocean Jet Ski runs a one-hour ride (€75) or two hours with a snorkelling stop (€129) along the Arona and San Miguel coast. The same company sells a jet ski and quad combo, but the two activities are 35 km apart and no transfer is provided: only book it if you have a car. See jet ski in Los Abrigos.

How much does jet skiing cost in Tenerife?

Prices read on the booking pages on 8 October 2026, for a ride on Thursday 15 October.

Format Time on the water Solo Two sharing one jet ski
Buoyed circuit 20 min (40 min with the briefing) €60 not stated on the listing
Short guided ride 40 min €87.50 to €140 €100
Guided ride 1 hour €70 to €140 €80 to €160
Long ride, to Los Gigantes or with snorkelling 2 hours €129 to €170 depends on the company
Jet ski and whale-watching boat 4 hours, including 1 hour of jet ski €129 per person €258
Jet ski and quad 1 hour of jet ski and 3 hours of quad €100 per person €200

The 20-minute circuit runs inside a zone marked by at least four buoys: it's a fairground ride, not a trip along the coast. To see the coastline you need the guided ride, and one hour is the right length for a first time.

Solo or two to a jet ski

Most companies sell the seat, not the jet ski. At Jetski Racing, an hour costs €70 solo, or €40 per person with two on one jet ski, so €80 in total. At Jet Ski Island it's €140 solo, €80 each for two. At Jet hub in Las Galletas, the price is the same with or without a passenger: €120 per jet ski. At Ocean Jet Ski in Los Abrigos, you can swap the driver's seat as often as you like.

If you both want to drive the whole time, take two jet skis: €140 for a couple at Jetski Racing, against €80 on one. For a first time, sharing is plenty.

What the price doesn't include

  • Photos: €20 at Turbo Jet Ski, €30 per jet ski at Jet hub, optional at Jetski Racing and Jet Ski Island.
  • Wetsuit: €10 at Turbo Jet Ski. The water is 20 to 22 °C from December to April, when a wetsuit is no luxury.
  • Deposit: €50 in cash per jet ski for the Ocean Jet Ski combo.
  • Transfer: free at Turbo Jet Ski (Las Galletas), optional at Jet hub, included in the Servizi Italia ride (€145).

Do you need a licence to jet ski in Tenerife?

No, as long as you follow an instructor. Spanish law (Royal Decree 259/2002, article 5) exempts rental customers from any boating licence when they ride in a buoyed circuit or a group excursion. Every ride on our pages works that way. To rent a jet ski and go wherever you like, you do need a boating licence; our guide do you need a licence for a jet ski? covers the rules country by country.

What the same law requires on licence-free rides:

  • one instructor for four jet skis at most, riding in an arrow formation behind them, at least 25 m apart; no overtaking;
  • two people at most per jet ski;
  • jet skis limited to 60 hp;
  • daylight only, and 3 knots at most in ports and beach channels.

So don't expect a free-for-all race: you follow the guide, at a good pace offshore and at walking speed near the beaches.

Age and weight

The law sets the minimum age to drive at 18. Between 16 and 18, you need a parent's written consent, with a copy of their ID, which the young driver must be able to show at any time. Companies add their own rules:

Company Driver Passenger Maximum weight
Water Sports Tenerife (Puerto Colón) 16 solo, 18 with a passenger
Jetski Racing (Puerto Colón) 16 solo, 18 with a passenger from 6 160 kg for two
Tenerife-rentaboat (Puerto Colón) 16-17 solo only, 18 with a passenger from 9 140 kg per person
Jet hub (Las Galletas) 16 with written consent 180 kg for two
Ocean Jet Ski (Los Abrigos) 16, written consent at 16-17 from 8, strong enough to hold on 200 kg for two, not advised above 120 kg
Turbo Jet Ski (Las Galletas) from 6 160 kg per jet ski

With a 16 or 17-year-old, have the signed consent ready before you leave and check on the listing that they'll be allowed to drive.

When should you go jet skiing in Tenerife?

Jet skiing runs all year in the south. But the swell changes from month to month, and it decides whether the ride goes out and whether it's enjoyable. We pulled three years of wave heights off the south coast (Costa Adeje) and the north coast (Puerto de la Cruz), between 10 am and 6 pm.

Month South: days of heavy swell (over 1.5 m) North: days of heavy swell Water in the south
January 28% 71% 21 °C
February 26% 61% 20 °C
March 47% 87% 20.5 °C
April 24% 60% 20.5 °C
May 5% 31% 21.5 °C
June 2% 16% 22.5 °C
July 4% 22% 23 °C
August 11% 41% 24 °C
September 3% 40% 24 °C
October 13% 48% 24 °C
November 17% 51% 23.5 °C
December 22% 66% 22 °C

Open-Meteo wave model, 2023 to 2025, offshore: these figures compare months and the two coasts; they don't tell you the exact wave you'll get near the port.

Three takeaways:

  • From May to September, heavy swell is rare in the south: less than one day in ten, except in August. This is the best time.
  • From December to April, count on one day in four of rough sea in the south; in March, one day in two. Keep two or three spare days in your trip.
  • The north gets two to three times more heavy-swell days than the south in winter, and far more in summer (16 to 41% of days, against 2 to 11%): one of the reasons nearly all jet skiing happens in the south.

If the sea is too rough, the company cancels: GetYourGuide rides are refunded up to 24 hours before; Manawa rides are moved or refunded in bad weather.

Can you see dolphins on a jet ski in Tenerife?

You can: the south-west coast, from Teno Point to Arona, is a protected area (Teno-Rasca) where pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins live. But a jet ski ride is not a wildlife tour. Spanish law (Royal Decree 1727/2007) forbids any vessel from coming within 60 m of a whale or dolphin. Within 500 m, it sets a 4-knot limit and bans circling the animals. A jet ski racing towards a pod of dolphins is breaking the law, and the guide knows it.

If seeing whales matters as much as driving, book the half-day combo: one hour of jet ski and a whale-watching boat trip, €129 per person from Puerto Colón.

Jet skiing elsewhere in the Canary Islands

The other islands have rides too, from their southern resorts:

  • Gran Canaria: Puerto de Mogán and Taurito (from €80), Anfi del Mar near Puerto Rico (20-minute circuit from €60, safari from €135). See Mogán and Puerto Rico.
  • Lanzarote: Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero (from €60 for 20 to 40 minutes), Playa Blanca (45-minute safari from €130). See Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca.
  • Fuerteventura: Caleta de Fuste, 20 minutes for €68 per two-seater jet ski. See Caleta de Fuste.

Every destination is on our jet ski in Spain page.

Yes, two people at most per jet ski, by law. Most companies charge per seat: €40 to €80 per person for an hour as a pair, against €70 to €140 solo. Total weight is capped at 160 to 200 kg depending on the company.

When is the best time to jet ski in Tenerife?

May to September, when heavy swell hits the south on less than one day in ten. In winter, keep a few spare days and plan on a wetsuit: the water drops to 20 °C.
